This assignment was to design and build a pair of sideburns based on a research photo. I admittedly took a very loose interpretation of that assignment. I struggled to find a historical man with sideburns that I wanted to emulate. In my search, I happened upon a photo of this adorable monkey. I liked the idea of creating sideburns that could be androgynous, and designing a piece around my own features. I ventilated the sideburns with hair similar to my own color. I used the darkest tones at the base, and then abruptly switched to my lightest blonde shades. I decreased the density of my knots as I moved up the cheekbone, to make the sideburns look as natural as possible. I cut the sideburns short on the bottom, to encourage the hair to extend outwards. I used a razor to get lots of texture through the piece. I finished the style with a large barrel curling iron and some hairspray.
